University of Ottawa honours half-century of contributions by Marie des Anges Loyer
OTTAWA, September 14, 2006 — The University of Ottawa has honoured one of its most dedicated former leaders with a research chair in her name.
The Marie des Anges Loyer-DaSilva Research Chair in Public Health Nursing will spur an ambitious research agenda in the university’s Faculty of Health Sciences. Prof. Marie des Anges Loyer has been part of that faculty for over 50 years, as student, alumna, faculty member, dean and director of the School of Nursing, member of the university’s Board of Governors, and generous donor.
“It’s hard to imagine someone who has contributed more, and in so many ways, to the University of Ottawa,” said Dean Denis Prud’homme. “Professor Loyer is a treasured part of the university community.”
The chair was funded with donations of more than $1-million by Professor Loyer, and will be filled by a national search for a chairholder. The chair will be focused on health promotion, or the effort to enable people to exert control over and improve their health, including mental, physical, and social health.
The chair was announced at a ceremony today at the University of Ottawa, which also named an auditorium at its health sciences complex in Professor Loyer’s honour.
