Chemistry professor becomes 14th uOttawa Polanyi prize winner
OTTAWA, November 25, 2004 — Assistant professor of chemistry Natalie Kazumi Goto is one of four 2004 recipients of the Polanyi Prize. The prizewinners were announced on November 23 by the Ontario government.
Prof. Goto joined the university in 2003, with a research program focused on using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) to understand the structure of proteins found on cell membranes. Her work will lead to improved understanding of basic life processes.
The $15,000 prize is given to researchers and academics pursuing post-doctoral studies at an Ontario university, and can be given to people working in the fields of chemistry, literature, physics, physiology, medicine, or economics.
The 2004 laureates will be honoured at a November 30 reception hosted by Lieutenant-Governor James Bartleman at Massey College in Toronto.
