University of Ottawa launches the CN-Paul M. Tellier Chair on Business and Public Policy
OTTAWA, October 15, 2009 — The University of Ottawa officially launched the new CN Paul M. Tellier Chair on Business and Public Policy yesterday and has announced Richard French as the inaugural chairholder. Created in 2005 thanks to a $1 million gift from CN, the Chair was named in order to honour the career and accomplishments of Paul. M. Tellier in both the public and private sectors.
Richard French was vice-chairman (telecommunications) of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) until recently. He holds a DPhil from University of Oxford and taught at McGill University before being elected to the Québec National Assembly where he served as minister for communications. He also held different management positions with major corporations such as Bell Canada and India’s Tata Communications.
“I am very honoured to hold the CN-Paul M. Tellier Chair on Business and Public Policy and to be associated with such well-known names that have greatly contributed to the Canadian economy and society,” said Richard French.
A Replacement Professor with the rank of Full Professor at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, Richard French is interested in the relationship between public politics and social and political thought. The goal of the Chair is to reduce the mutual misunderstandings that more often than not cloud relationships between the public sector and the business world.
The University of Ottawa is committed to research excellence and encourages an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge creation, which attracts the best academic talent from across Canada and around the world.
