University of Ottawa’s response to anonymous email regarding one of its professors
OTTAWA, November 3, 2008 — Last Thursday, an anonymous e-mail, which purports to convey information about one of our part-time professors, was distributed to various members of the University of Ottawa community.
The University immediately began looking into various aspects of the matter, including important issues relating to privacy, and the possible breach of confidentiality relating to research data.
At this time, it does not appear that any uOttawa e-mail account was compromised. However, we are reviewing all of these issues.
The University of Ottawa hires professors based on academic merit and will continue to do so. We are satisfied that the professor in question had the appropriate academic qualifications when hired, and she continues to teach her assigned courses.
