Awards & Achievements

Part-Time Professor of the Year

2000 Recipient - Peggy Kleinplatz

Peggy KleinplatzPeople speak more publicly about sexual matters today than perhaps at any point in history, but privately they may harbour many reservations about broaching some topics. As a clinical psychologist, certified sex therapist and part-time professor teaching sexology in the School of Psychology, Peggy J. Kleinplatz, PhD, encourages her students to overcome this contradiction in their thinking.

Since 1983, Kleinplatz has taught 42 sections of the University's human sexual behaviour program, and led directed studies and other courses for the School of Psychology. She has published numerous articles and delivered presentations on a wide range of sexual topics. She is the editor of the forthcoming book, New Directions in Sex Therapy: Innovations and Alternatives, which offers alternatives to the increasing medicalization of human sexuality. She has been active in University of Ottawa campus life, participating in events such as International Women's Day, Gay Pride Week and Frosh Week.

The Association of Part-time Professors at the University of Ottawa has recognized Peggy Kleinplatz's exceptional work handing her the 2000 Part-time Professor of the Year award during a ceremony on November 28, 2000. Following the ceremony, Prof. Kleinplatz delivered a lecture entitled, "Sexual Education Through the Life Cycle."
