2006 Recipient - Daniel Soong
Chancellor's Scholarship 2006-2007 (Health Sciences)
Daniel graduated from Ottawa’s Ashbury College in biology, chemistry and mathematical studies. Newly admitted to the Faculty of Health Sciences, he foresees pursuing a career in medicine. A very active community member, he has given over 300 hours of service to his fellow citizens while maintaining a 95 per cent average. In 2005, he volunteered as a physiotherapist’s assistant at the Ottawa Sports Medical Centre. He has been a recreational program assistant with the Glebe Centre Long Term Care Home since 2002. Daniel has also undertaken a field course in marine biology at the Hunstman station in New Brunswick. This health specialist is also well-rounded in music. In fact, Daniel plays both piano and flute and has received many musical awards, such as a certificate of distinction from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Peer tutor and part of the science club, he has received scientific, community service and athletic awards as well. Daniel is fluent in Chinese. Concerned with international matters, his altruistic conscience encouraged him to submit an essay on humanitarian aid and world relief. We can safely say Daniel really takes health and people to heart.
