2003 Recipient - Michael Geist

Michael Geist is a professor of Common Law and Canada Research Chair of Internet and E commerce Law at the University. His media work is particularly noteworthy due to its volume, subject matter, breadth, longevity and impact. He writes a regular column for The Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star. He has been a regular commentator and expert analyst on a broad range of issues for numerous media outlets. These include every major Canadian print and television outlet (CBC, CTV, Globe and Mail, National Post, Macleans and so on), many leading U.S. media publications (New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and the list goes on), and leading European media sources.
His research and granting activity has been the subject of media attention. His media work has had a significant impact on the development of policy in Canada and the world. The subject matter is far reaching and topical: privacy law, intellectual property law, Internet governance and e commerce issues. Recently, he established a series of Web sites to disseminate his research to the broader community.
