2004 Recipient - Lida Tohidi

Lida Tohidi’s successes during her years as a student at Gloucester High School, in Ottawa, opened the way for her to study at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Science. She has continually distinguished herself through her academic excellence, most notably through her participation in the national “Be a Gene Researcher For a Week” program, where she was able to learn more about her passion, science, from top-notch scientists from across the country. She has received awards recognizing her excellence in many subjects, and participated in national physics and mathematics competitions. Her academic abilities and her participation in school clubs and community activities combined to make her a national recipient of the Chanel Scholarship and win her the Canadian Merit Scholarship, as well as the Outstanding Youth Award. She is passionately involved in her school’s anti-racism group, in Amnesty International, the Youth Action Network and the Iranian Festival of Ottawa, which holds particular interest for her because she is of Iranian origin herself.
