2004 Recipient - Elizabeth Gilbert

Ms. Gilbert, from Orleans, has a passion for numbers. The Mathematics Club at Ecole secondaire publique De La Salle helped her train for the 2004 Euclid Mathematics Contest, which measured the aptitudes of 10,000 students around the world. Ms. Gilbert will pursue her interest in mathematics through studies at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Engineering – where she will also be putting to use the analytical and critical thinking skills she developed as a member of her school’s debating club. Ms. Gilbert is interested in social justice issues. As a member of Amnesty International’s Peace and Justice Committee, and as a participant in World Vision’s recent 30-Hour Famine event, she recognizes the importance of accepting and appreciating differences among people as a way to lasting peace. In addition to her excellent academic work and her involvement in school activities, Ms. Gilbert has a strong interest in dance and music.
