2004 Recipient - Julie Hukui
Ms. Hukui is already an accomplished young woman. In addition to having received numerous prizes and awards for academic excellence, particularly in science, she is an avid sportswoman. That became evident starting in 2000, when she was named successively captain of her volleyball team, most valuable player, and the player with the best team spirit. She was recently named Athlete of the Week by the Hamilton Spectator, her hometown paper, and was nominated for Athlete of the Year in 2002. Ms. Hukui has been particularly active in extra-curricular activities in her high school, having been editor of the yearbook and vice-president of the student council. Her open and engaging personality has led her to be involved in a theatre troupe and work at the student radio station, as well as volunteer at many francophone community activities. Ms. Hukui is about to undertake studies in health sciences.
