Where is technology taking our society?

The Dialogue on Technology, Society and the Future is a high-profile and interactive lecture, in which the University of Ottawa, with the support of TELUS, a leading Canadian technology provider, will engage leaders from the academic, government and business communities as well as students and the general public in an important dialogue. The lecture will examine the profound impact that innovation in technology and services is having on our society, economy and culture.

New generations of Canadians are using technology to change the way we communicate, learn, do business and engage in creative endeavours across all fields of human expression. This has precipitated much public discussion about information technology policy in Canada. The University of Ottawa is a recognized leader in examining the role of communications through our academic programs, as well as the research undertaken by our faculty and students.

The Dialogue on Technology, Society and the Future will help to unlock students' imaginations, expand their horizons, and encourage them to pose compelling questions about technology and its impact on everyday life.

The Dialogue will take the format of a moderated discussion, including the presentation of a provocative lecture and a panel of leading youth commentators to act as respondents. The main presentation will be delivered by Professor Ian Kerr, Canada Research Chair in Ethics, Law and Technology at the University of Ottawa. The Dialogue will be moderated by Evan Solomon, co-host of CBC News: Sunday Night, with two remarkable young Canadians – Craig Kielberger and Jennifer Corriero – as respondents.
